Changing Opinions on RGP Contact Lenses

RGP contact lenses, also known as rigid gas permeable lenses, have made quite a few strides over the past decade and can provide comfort and improved vision to the wearer. However, many people have a negative opinion associated with RGP lenses. Fortunately, these lenses have changed for the better and are on a comeback.

Rigid gas permeable lenses actually have quite a few bonuses that soft contact lenses cannot provide. For instance, RGP lenses provide the wearer with increased eye health because these contacts can breathe and circulate oxygen to the eye. RGP contact lenses have many positives and they just might change your opinion regarding these lenses.

RGP lenses are more durable and resistant to protein buildup than their softer counterparts. This leads to easier handling and clearer vision because buildup does not occur so easily. Also, these contacts generally provide clearer and crisper vision, anyway, because they are more rigid. RGP contacts are more durable and so they generally last longer because they are not so fragile. This is good for the RGP contact wearer because these contacts are a little pricier than soft lenses. However, they are generally cheaper over the long haul because they last so much longer if taken care of.

Another great trait of RGP lenses is because of their durability they can be marked with L and R to denote which eye the lens is for. This certainly eliminates any confusion.

The biggest negative associated with RGP lenses these days is it takes longer for the eye to accept them and be accustomed to wearing them. This is opposed to soft lenses which generally just takes a few days. These lenses must also be worn on a regular basis so as not to go through the process of re-aclimating the eye to the lens.

If you had a negative opinion of RGP lenses in the past this information should show you that RGP lenses have come a long way and are certainly a viable contact lens option.

Las Vegas Interesting Facts

Many have had their days of glory in the state of Nevada. But these three step out of the crowd, as they gave the name of the game.

Frank Rosenthal

He is the best sports handicapper in the history of Las Vegas. He used to be called "Las Vegas King", "Guru", or something that he surely is: a genius. He inaugurated the first sports and race book, at Stardust Hotel & Casino. Every casino in Las Vegas copied his invention afterwards. He used to run four casinos at the same time, during the 1970's and early 1980's: Stardust, Fremont, Hacienda, and Marina.

Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal inspired one of the leading characters in the "Casino" book and movie (performed by Robert de Niro), though the story doesn't speak the entire truth, he says. You can find Frank at his own web page

Steve Wynn

Partially, he has made his apprenticeship with Frank Rosenthal. Finally, he "dethroned" him. He is now chairman of Mirage Resorts, that includes the largest hotel in the world, MGM Grand. Some of his success is linked to the name of E. Parry Thomas, known as the only banker in town, at that time, who would loan money to build a casino. Rosenthal himself describes him as a "a very skilled mind".

George Wingfield

The two "kings" were preceded by George Wingfield, a major figure in the history of Nevada, since 1912. He used to be characterised as "the owner and operator of Nevada". Two businesses got him the glory: mining and gambling. He moved to Nevada at the beginning of the 20th century. As an active politician he struggled to get gambling and divorce legalised. Gambling was re-legalised in the state of Nevada in 1931. The same year, the famous six-weeks divorce law was approved. Ironically, nowadays, 230 marriage licenses are issued every day in Las Vegas.

The gold mine of America

After South Africa, the state of Nevada is the largest gold producer in the world. Golden Nugget Hotel displays the world's biggest gold nugget ever found, that weights 61 pounds.

The most famous mine owner in the history of Nevada was George Wingfield. He also owned every bank in the state. Goldfield Consolidated Mines Company, that he ran together with senator (at that time) George S. Nixon, made them both multi-millionaires.

The other "gold mine" of the state of Nevada is gambling, since gaming activities were legalised in 1931. In 2003, the gross gaming revenue in Las Vegas was $7,673,489,000.

This "gold mine" closed its doors only one time in history: on November 25th 1963, for the national mourning of the assassinated president George Kennedy. History didn't repeat itself in the first days after September 11. In fact, Americans asked in surveys on this subject saw Las Vegas as a place to escape the tension.

Houston Personal Watercraft Insurance Information

Houston personal watercraft (also called jet ski) insurance is available with several options. The least expensive option is liability only coverage. This is similar to an auto liability policy with coverage in Texas starting at around 20/40/15. That would cover injury to another person up to $20,000, or up to $40,000 for multiple persons injured in the same accident. Property damage usually starts at $15,000.

This type of basic coverage could be around $10 per month depending on rating factors like age, driving record, and other factors. You can increase the limits at additional cost. This is advisable because if there is an accident the damages could be much higher than the minimum coverage.

Jet ski's are a lot of fun and in the excitement of a new purchase some customers don't think about insurance. This is a mistake because there is a serious liability hazard involved with these crafts. For example if a swimmer is run over by a personal watercraft you own, you will probably be liable for injurys. Think about how you will feel if there is a serious accident if you don't have insurance!

For additional cost you can insure your personal watercraft for collision, theft, sinking, and other covered hazards. The extra cost will depend on the Jet Skis value, the deductible you select, your driving record, and other factors. This coverage will often be around $15 extra per month. This is very good coverage to have and I recommend it unless your watercraft has a very small value. Consider adding your trailer if applicable. Most policies will allow you to add coverage for accessories with a small up-charge.

Other options could include medical payments coverage, uninsured watercraft, towing and assistance, wreck removal, and pollution liability coverage.

Lamb Insurance Agency, (Farmers Insurance) Auto, Home, Life, and Business Insurance for Texas - http://farmersagent.com/glamb/ or http://www.insurance-for-texas.com When selecting a policy be sure to deal with a reputable company and an agent experienced with this type of policy. Ask for an explanation of coverages and options. Rates and options for Texas residents is available at my Houston personal watercraft insurance site. Understanding The Interest Only Mortgages And Its Advantages

More and more people are accepting the idea of interest only mortgages. Of course, who wouldn't want to pay only for interest rates for the first few years of their mortgage? The idea of paying only a very small amount on your mortgage of course has its advantages and disadvantages. Read on and see if the advantage will outweigh the disadvantage for this type of mortgage.

The first advantage in interest only mortgages is better purchasing power. That means that you can have a wider selection compared to those that require you to pay even more. Couples can have a bigger home for their family since they really don't need to be burdened with a very high monthly payment. You can be assured that for the first five to ten years, you only pay a very small amount for your property. Even though you are not reducing the principal loan, you are still assured that you get to keep a great house.

Interest only mortgages will also work for people who have projected or predicted something big in their life. It could be an inheritance, a higher paying job or a successful business after a few years. This could be a risky move but people who know more than others can grab this opportunity and work their way to the top while not paying for something higher. They can even get a post graduate course and instead of paying for the mortgage, they will only pay for the interest and some of the money could go to tuition. By the time they will be required to pay for the principal amount, they already have a post graduate degree and a high paying job because of this qualification. A person who dreams to make it big and knows how to do it is the perfect candidate for this kind of mortgage.

This is also a trick, but some people who use this kind of mortgage don't have a plan in staying there for the rest of their lives. They will only pay for the interest for a few years and after that they will sell the house. Even though they will get nothing since they haven't paid anything at all, it's still worth it. It's like paying the rent for many years with an interest rate.

The disadvantage of this type of mortgage is it's too risky for some people. If you don't have a clear inheritance coming in a few years, you can't just say you can pay it on time. Most of the time; people who want this payment term have the projection of becoming something big. Unfortunately, not all of them can realize their dream when the required year of payment comes. In the end they will lose their homes and end up with a bad credit rating.

If you know you are on the road to success or to wealth, and have a clear path to do so, you can have this type of credit. If not, you need to rethink of what you can do to pay for this type of mortgage.

Values

In May, I attended the local Red Cross's Taste of the Valley fund-raising dinner, during which a 50-50 raffle was conducted. A young waiter won the $300 cash prize but immediately returned the money to the Red Cross with the comment, you need this more than I do. After a standing ovation, several people commented about his values of charity and giving. I heard one person say, that boy has some good values, and this got me to wondering if we ever stop to examine just what this kind of statement really means. What are values?

There is no one correct definition, but the one I like best is found in www.ethicsscoreboard.com_definition and defines values as "those qualities of behavior, thought, and character that society regards as being intrinsically good, having desirable results, and worthy of emulation by others." Arguably, the following might fit this definition: honesty, courage, loyalty, justice, independence, hard work, self reliance, honor, Semper Fi, dignity, doing the right thing, moral integrity, nonviolence, faith, tradition, quality, customer service, excellence, charity, thrift, openness, candor, empathy, self accountability, diversity, chivalry and activism, to cite just some. Many of these values interact with on another; for example, nonviolent activism to achieve social justice is, I submit, a courageous and noble endeavor, and I know for certain that down South, chivalry is an honorable and enduring tradition worthy of emulation.

Speaking of the South and on a more personal level, I took time off in the early sixties to go to Mississippi with other graduate students and faculty members from Loyola University of Chicago to help register minority voters in a number of hamlets. It was extremely dangerous but fulfilling work and I believe what drove us were strong faith-based values linked to social justice and equally strong core values associated with courage and doing the right thing. During this volatile period of racial unrest, values were played out in different ways by different people. Previously, of course, Gandhi's value of nonviolence and his passion for independence began a drive for freedom that doomed colonialism in India and provided a value later emulated in both the United States and South Africa. The Rev. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks displayed two values that were inspiring: nonviolence and courage. Later during this volatile period, Sen. John McCain demonstrated the values of duty, loyalty, honor and courage as a POW in Hanoi.

Many corporations pride themselves on a published set of values and some (Levi Strauss) even call themselves value-based companies. Digital Equipment, before it was acquired by Compaq Computer, was perhaps the classic example with its employees striving to emulate its founder, Ken Olsen, by always trying to do the right thing in any given situation. Nordstrom's is famous for its value of customer service. Hewlett Packard is famous for its employee-oriented "HP Way." Enron, before its collapse, was noted for its value of fostering an "entrepreneurial culture" which unfortunately evolved to something else. Toyota is known for its value of quality. But value-based companies are the exception and few walk the talk. Indeed, a company may lay off thousands of workers, but the way it carries out the downsizing reflects how the value of doing the right thing plays out. Some companies give minimal notice and little severance pay; others help provide a financial bridge to other employment by offering a competitive severance and outplacement package. Some companies load their boards with friendly faces; others strive for independence on their boards and transparency.

In and of themselves, values are pretty meaningless unless they are played out by behavior. Politician often proclaim the value of courage and then quickly waffle on an issue. The measure of leaders is often marked by their value-based behavior. Anwar Sadat of Egypt demonstrated the ultimate value of courage when he reached out in peace to Israel knowing full well it would likely cost him his life. When Malcolm X broke from the mainstream Black Muslims, he too assumed tremendous risks based on a religious epiphany and based on his core values to do the right thing. The Rev. Billy Graham personifies his faith-based values in every facet of his life, and who can doubt the motives of Jimmy Carter as he continues to work for peace.

In this area, you need to practice what you preach. Jimmy Carter and Billy Graham are all about honesty and decency, but so are their actions. As the world's most famous prisoner and, now, his country's leader, Nelson Mandela exemplifies a moral integrity that shines beyond South Africa, but remember, he shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 with Frederik Willem de Klerk, the white Prime Minister of South Africa, who himself demonstrated unusual courage by reaching out. Egypt's Sadat and Israel's Menachem Begin shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978. Sadat was one of the world's most admired leaders for his foresight, leadership and courage in the wake of the Camp David accords negotiated with Begin under Jimmy Carter's auspices. However, the agreement was not universally popular, particularly among Islamic fundamentalists, and Sadat was later assassinated.

More often than not, it takes what I term a courageous crossover to really mark the great achievements. Who can argue that Gorbechev played almost as important a role as Pope John Paul II and Lech Walesa of Poland in bringing down communism? Sadat had his Begin; Mandela had de klerk; Ronald Reagan had Gorbechev. In fighting for the dignity of the destitute, Mother Teresa gave the world a moral example that bridged divides of culture, class and religion. Although Yasser Arafat shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin of Israel in 1994, had he "crossed over" and reached out as Sadat had done, he perhaps could have achieved the same greatness.

Getting back to that young waiter at the Red Jacket, he indeed demonstrated some "good values," and I suspect he learned them from his parents or a teacher or maybe his boss. So the next time you hear someone talk about values, keep in mind there may be a whole lot more to it than meets the eye. The next time you see a Sun columnist or reporter, community activist or local politician, take an particular stand in the face of criticism and/or at the risk of political disfavor, watch for his or her values to play out. And, from time to time, a little self-reflection and inventory could be a useful endeavor. Ask yourself: what are my core values? Are they worthy of emulation? Are they admirable qualities?

Trying to Define Criminal Law

We hear about law everyday whether we realize it or not. It's in our Government, in our work, and even in our houses. One type of law is Criminal law, which is also known as Penal law. This is "The body of statutory and common law that deals with crime and the legal punishment of criminal offenses."

Inside of criminal law there is four major theories of criminal justice:

- Punishment

- Deterrence

- Incapacitation

- Rehabilitation

This form of law is essential in many cases because it can distinguis between crimes from civil wrongs. Criminal law has been around for ages, and is seeing as the fundamental system of regulating the behavior of individuals and groups relatively to what is defined as the social norms. This differs between civil crimes, where the difference is between two individuals and their individual rights and obligations under the law which is ruling the entire society.

An example of a civil law case is a dispute between two individuals over a contract that they made to for example sell an automobile. In that case one individual feels that their individual rights for a fair automobile sale have been breached by the other party. Where as in a criminal case, you would have for example a murderer, who is infringing on the right of safety that we all have. Given those two examples I'm sure you can appreciate how important Criminal law is, and the important role that it plays in everyone of our societies.

Acid Reflux Diet

I won't write you a long list of what you shouldn't eat. Everyone has something specific that triggers heartburn. But I think there are generic guidelines which you can follow. Below are several tips which can help you adjust your diet to acid reflux disease:

  • Do not eat highly acidic food. Actually let's say it this way. NO ACIDIC FOOD. Any acidic food that gives you a burning sensation is going to make your heartburn worse. I know that it is hard to part with orange juice and kiwi but you have to if you want to make heartburn disappear.- Avoid very spicy food. "Very spicy" is a bit tricky to define but you should feel a limit after which you will have a guaranteed heartburn.
  • Do not overeat. You can manage this by trying to avoid cases when you have to force food into your stomach. Sometimes it is very hard to do because all restaurants in US are designed to make you do it. But remember: putting too much food in your stomach will cause your stomach to stretch and esophageal valve to relax. And you'll get heartburn as a result.
  • Do not eat too fast. Again you should define it for yourself. But the faster you eat the more air you swallow. And if you don't chew your food enough your stomach will have too much work to do and more acid to produce.
  • Cut on drinking caffeine containing drinks like coffee, coke, green tea. You may be surprised by the results. For me heartburn is guaranteed if I have more than one cup of caffeinated tea a day. If you cannot live without tea try Rooibos tea It is very tasty and it won't give you heartburn. You can find caffeine level of each drink at the following page about coffee and heartburn
  • Create a log where you write what food you ate and what level of heartburn it caused for you. Keep a list of recipes which work the best for you and try to stay with them for some time. Here is an example of such heartburn recipes list.
Sticking with these advices for 3-6 months produced tremendous results for me. But if your heartburn symptoms are severe and not becoming better visit your doctor as soon as possible. There are lots of medical ways to treat acid reflux disease.

For more information please visit my sites about acid reflux diet and heartburn.
